Facing an unplanned pregnancy may be scary and confusing. There are so many questions and you’re not sure where to turn for honest answers. Maybe it will help to read some of the questions we have heard in the past about adoption.

Is there someone I can talk to?
YES…In every community there are caring people who work with women facing tough decisions. Talking to a lawyer or adoption professional will clear up a lot of your questions.

Will they make me choose adoption?
NO…Their job is to give you truthful, helpful information. They can’t make the decision for you. Only you know what is best for you and your baby.

Adoption scares me. Isn’t it like I don’t care about my baby?
NOT AT ALL…Adoption can be a gift you give your child, the chance to grow up in a family you choose. You can choose a family that will agree to your having ongoing contact with your child.

What is an adoption plan?
It’s the plan you make about your future and your baby’s future. This includes choosing the baby’s adoptive family, medical care, counseling, and education about adoption.

Will my child ever get to know me?
That’s up to you. You can either choose a disclosed (sometimes called open) or a confidential (sometimes called closed) adoption. An adoption professional can help you decide what type of adoption is best for you and your baby.

It is so important to find someone to talk to, even if you call an adoption agency and ask questions without telling them who you are. Sometimes a kind voice and a few answers can help you feel better and find answers to your questions.
